This book has opposing intentions, subversive and reckless: to be a tool for those who want to listen to and enjoy songs, and then choose them, as well as being an enjoyable read. In one respect, however, it is in line with contemporary habits: you read it as if scrolling through a timeline, story after story, or even jumping from link to link, or opening pages at random. Maybe one day we will be able to control-click on any title on Spotify and get all the information about that particular song: and maybe there will be too much information, and we will want less. This book serves this purpose, just like the work of any DJ: to offer choices. In addition to recounting the music that makes up life, not through chronologies, epics, genealogies, rock histories, and artist encyclopedias, but by telling the real story: the songs.

________________________

LUCA SOFRI, journalist and editorial director of il Post, which he founded and directed for 15 years.
