The first concert of Matinée’s 2026 season celebrates Argentine music in a dialogue between tradition and modernity that evokes the lively and passionate atmosphere of tango and folk dances.
★ SUNDAY JANUARY 11, 11 a.m.
★ MATINÉE | Innovation and tradition
★ DUO GUIÒN | Nicolo Bertano and Gabriele Viada
Guitar and accordion
Music by Piazzolla, Brouwer, Ponce, Gubitsch
The proposed programme alternates Astor Piazzolla’s instantly recognisable melodies – Ave Maria, Oblivion and Histoire du Tango – with more articulate and refined pieces, such as Leo Brouwer’s Danza Concertante No. 1 and Manuel Ponce’s Sonata, both presented in the Duo Guión transcription.
Brouwer’s dances offer a rhythmic and timbral language of great precision, while Ponce’s sonata recalls the forms and structures of the classical tradition, reinterpreted with a twentieth-century sensibility. In this alternation of styles, Histoire du Tango represents a veritable historical fresco, retracing the evolution of tango from its origins to the contemporary concert language.
The ideal synthesis of the programme is Villa Luro by Tomás Gubitsch, a piece that blends clearly Piazzolla-esque atmospheres with a more modern and personal language, closing the concert as a meeting point between innovation and tradition.

DUO GUIÒN
Formed by musicians Nicolò Bertano (guitar) and Gabriele Viada (accordion), both born in 2004, the duo was created in the summer of 2023 at the end of their studies at the Liceo Musicale ‘Ego Bianchi’ in Cuneo. From the outset, the duo chose to explore a repertoire that highlights the versatility and complementarity of the two instruments, offering both transcriptions and original works. Despite the difference in timbre between the guitar and the accordion, Duo Guión creates a balanced and engaging dialogue that enhances the sounds of both instruments.
Active and in demand, the duo performs regularly in important Italian festivals and concert seasons, with significant engagements in Pisa, Bologna, Parma and other prominent venues.
Over the last year, Duo Guión has won numerous prizes in national and international competitions.
With a constant commitment to the search for new sounds and the overcoming of traditional stylistic boundaries, Duo Guión stands out for its ability to create an original and dynamic musical dialogue between guitar and accordion, opening up ever new expressive spaces.
